Where Pop Culture and Cocktails Collide

Spanish Passion – Passion Fruit Sangria

Pasion Fruit Table Spread
Give me a straw and twenty minutes.

What I love about this passion fruit sangria is that it’s easy as shit to make, it tastes fantastic, and it keeps well. I’m not ashamed to admit I’ve made a giant batch and kept a bottle squirreled away in my fridge for my own personal use.

Hey, sometimes you need to drink a glass/bottle of sangria by yourself after a long day. That is totally normal behavior.

Passion fruits are actually the giant berries of a flower that looks like it fell off an alien spaceship traveling from some other dimension. But rather than running away screaming and crying at the bizarre flower and its giant egg like fruit, people ate it, and thank goodness because this shit is delicious.

Passion Flower
Seriously, look at this thing. It’s a tentacled monster mouth.

Tips

• You don’t need to use fancy wine to make fancy sangria. You will be balancing out any of the “cheap” flavors with your juices and syrup. I used Yellowtail Sauvignon Blanc for my batch.
• Add simple syrup and/or lemon juice until you achieve the perfect balance of flavors. For mine I ended up not using any simple syrup, and it was delicious.
• Soak peach and apple slices in the sangria overnight for a boozy treat to have with your cocktail.
• While making your sangria, fill an ice cube tray (Amazon link) with berries and citrus peels, cover them with water and pop ‘em in the freezer. Then in a couple hours, your sangria will have chilled in the fridge and you’ll have colorful ice cubes to serve with it.

Spanish Passion - Passion Fruit Sangria

White sangria gets fancy with the addition of Passion Fruit juice.
Servings 6

Ingredients

  • 1 Bottle Sauvignon Blanc I used Yellowtail
  • 1 cup Passion Fruit Juice
  • 3 Limes juiced
  • 2 Lemons juiced
  • .5 cup Peach Schnapps
  • Simple Syrup to taste

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a pitcher, adding simple syrup at the end until desired sweetness is reached.
  • Serve chilled over fruit ice cubes.

Combine all ingredients in a pitcher and allow to chill before serving. That’s it, other than juicing your citrus, you’re barely doing anything at all. Serve in a wine glass with ice and bask in the glory of your admiring friends/frenemies.

Garnishes

Fancy
Drop some blueberries, raspberries, citrus wheels, anything yummy and colorful into the wine glass with your sangria. It looks fantastic and leaves your guests with a treat!

Really Fancy
Gather some raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, lemons, and limes. Prepare the fruit to be placed in an ice cube tray (I like to use 1” cubes.) Keep blueberries and raspberries whole. Removed stems from strawberries and cut them into quarters. Carefully use a potato peeler or knife to cut thin zests from the citrus fruit. Freeze until solid, serve with sangria, and pat yourself on your fancy fucking back, you’re amazing.

Fancy as Fuck
Keep the fruit cubes from really fancy, they’re awesome. Now prepare to dazzle as you sprinkle rose or hibiscus petals in the sangria immediately before serving (they will start to look gross if you leave them in there for longer than an hour or two.)
